BJP's Electoral Strategy in Muslim-Dominated Seats After Fadnavis' 'Vote Jihad' Remark
Real Estate Maharashtra:The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections with a focused strategy targeting Muslim-dominated assembly seats. This approach comes in the wake of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' recent remarks on 'vote jihad', a term he used to describe the consolidated voting pattern of Muslims in the recent Lok Sabha elections. The BJP is facing an uphill battle in these seats, where they believe Muslim voters voted en bloc, affecting the party's performance.

According to BJP leaders, the party is eyeing 14 Lok Sabha constituencies where their candidates lost due to the consolidation of Muslim votes. Muslim-dominated assembly constituencies like Dhule, Amravati, Mumbai North-East, Mumbai North-Central, Thane, and Bhiwandi are critical in this strategy. These areas are believed to have played a significant role in the BJP's losses in the Lok Sabha polls.

While targeting the Muslim vote, the BJP is also making efforts to galvanize non-Muslim voters in and around these constituencies. This dual strategy aims to increase their overall voter base and mitigate the impact of the 'vote jihad'.

Fadnavis, during his recent remarks, cited Dhule as an example. He mentioned that the BJP candidate in the constituency lost despite leading in five other assembly segments in the Lok Sabha seat, mainly due to voting patterns in the Muslim-dominated Malegaon Central segment. Fadnavis expressed concern about the growing confidence among some groups, stating, 'Some people believe that by voting in large numbers, they can defeat the Hindutva forces, even though they are a minority. This is time for us to awaken.'

Fadnavis further noted that out of the 48 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state, 14 saw instances of 'vote jihad'. He emphasized that while Hinduism has always respected other faiths and tolerance is in the blood of the community, the party needs to awaken Hindutva if people are voting to elect anti-Hindu leaders.

Senior BJP leaders have tried to downplay the impact of 'vote jihad', claiming that despite these challenges, BJP candidates only received around 2.75 percent fewer votes than those from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). They also highlighted that the BJP managed to gain 3.10 lakh more votes in Mumbai compared to the MVA.

In June this year, senior BJP leader Kirit Somaiya posted on X (formerly Twitter) with detailed statistics about the Mumbai North-East Lok Sabha seat. He stated, 'FACTS BJP Mihir Kotecha Mumbai North East Loksabha LOST by 29,861 votes. DEFICIT in Mankhurd 87,971; LEAD Mulund to Ghatkopar 58,110. Mankhurd Only ONE Assembly (BANGLADESHI area) Uddhav Thackeray Sena got 1,16,072 BJP 28,101 votes. DEFICIT of 87,971. We LOST to Bangladeshi.'

However, the BJP believes that 'vote jihad' will not significantly impact their performance in the assembly polls. They point to the popularity of their schemes, such as the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Scheme, which is well-received among voters. Additionally, the party claims to have addressed the issues faced by onion, cotton, and soybean farmers and expects to increase the voter turnout by 8-10 percent.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remains confident that their ground-level efforts and popular schemes will help them make a strong comeback in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, despite the recent challenges.
