Mumbai: BMC Gets 97 OC Amnesty Applications in 2 Months

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has received 97 applications under its occupation certificate (OC) amnesty scheme within nearly two months of its launch. The scheme, introduced in September, aims to help housing societies obtain long-pending OCs without facing hefty penalties.
What the Scheme Offers
Under the amnesty, societies can regularise their buildings by paying a nominal fee instead of the usual penalties. This move is expected to clear the backlog of unauthorised constructions and bring them under the civic body's official records.
Impact on Property Buyers
For homebuyers, the scheme is a significant relief as it ensures their buildings get legal status, enabling smoother property transactions, bank loans, and resale. It also enhances the overall transparency in Maharashtra's real estate market.
The BMC has extended the scheme's deadline to encourage more societies to come forward. Officials believe this will streamline the process of issuing OCs and reduce disputes between developers and residents.
