Breaking News: Earthquake Hits Philippines, Drug Inspections Fall Short in Tamil Nadu
Real Estate Pune:An earthquake of magnitude 7.4 struck the Philippines’ Mindanao region on Friday, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). The quake was at a depth of 58 km (36.04 miles), and the US Tsunami Warning System issued a tsunami threat, stating that hazardous tsunami waves are possible for coasts located within 300 km (186 miles) of the earthquake’s epicenter. EMSC had initially pegged the magnitude at 7.2.

Between 2016-17 and 2020-21, the drug regulator in Tamil Nadu consistently fell short of its targets. Inspectors conducted about 61% of the scheduled drug inspections and collected roughly 49% of the samples required for quality testing. These persistent shortfalls, which highlight structural weaknesses in monitoring and enforcement, were red-flagged by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India last year. The issue has come into focus following the death of 22 children after drinking contaminated cough syrup in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara district.

The body of one of the two soldiers who have been missing since Monday was found on Thursday in the Kokernag forests in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The search for the other soldier is ongoing. The body of the paratrooper was found inside the dense forests of Gadole in Kokernag. Sources suggest that the soldier likely died of hypothermia due to plummeting temperatures following heavy snowfall in the forest area.

The lifting of protection for vast swathes of the Aravallis could favor real estate and mining interests, according to conservationists. This move has sparked concerns among environmentalists who are fighting to preserve the natural landscape and biodiversity of the region.
