CBI Registers Case Against WCL Foreman for Alleged Bribery
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken swift action by registering a case against a foreman in-charge of Western Coal Fields Limited (WCL) for allegedly demanding a bribe to perform his official duties. This development comes as a significant blow to the integrity of the organization and highlights the ongoing efforts to combat corruption within government and corporate bodies.
According to the CBI, a written complaint dated January 9, 2026, was received from K.L. Nagrale, a senior clerk at the Neeljal Deep Open Cast Mine, Neeljai Sub Area, WCL. Nagrale alleged that a foreman in-charge at the Naigaon Open Cast Mine, Neeljai Sub Area, WCL, had demanded bribes totaling ₹50,000 and ₹25,000 through him. The bribes were allegedly intended to facilitate the mutual transfer of a mining sirdar from the Gondegaon Open Cast Mine and an overman from the Gokul Open Cast Mine, both in the Umred Area of WCL.
The allegations were promptly verified by the CBI on the same day. The verification process revealed that the accused had indeed demanded the bribes as alleged. However, during the course of the verification, the accused public servant reportedly reduced the total bribe amount to ₹40,000 for the requested transfers.
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The CBI has stated that the investigation is ongoing and further actions will be taken as necessary. This case underscores the commitment of the CBI to uphold the law and ensure that public servants adhere to the highest standards of integrity and transparency.
