Kavach is an indigenous automatic train protection system developed by Indian Railways to prevent accidents caused by overspeeding, collisions, and trains breaching danger signals.
The first Kavach trial was conducted in Solapur Division of the Central Railway on a 26-kilometre stretch between Dhavalas and Bhalwani stations.
Kavach works by exchanging real-time information between station equipment and locomotives, ensuring adherence to speed restrictions and authorised movement limits.
The benefits of Kavach include enhanced safety, reduced dependence on imports, improved operational reliability, and promotion of safer and more efficient rail mobility.
Kavach contributes to sustainable transport by reducing delays, optimising fuel consumption, and improving the overall efficiency of train operations, which supports the creation of equitable, resilient, and eco-friendly cities.
