A 27-year-old CGST inspector named Yashwant Gahlaut was arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000.
The CGST inspector demanded Rs 40,000 from a real estate firm owner to get rid of a tax notice.
The real estate firm received a notice from the CGST Vapi office stating that their CGST taxes for the year 2020-21 had not been paid.
The businessman verified the payment of the tax amount with his accountant and showed the bills to the CGST inspector.
The CGST inspector was arrested under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
