Conflict Over Property in Mumbai: 41 Arrests After Security Guard Shoots at Rival Company Guards

A plot of land on Bapurao Jagtap Marg near Jacob Circle in Agripada, Mumbai, has been the subject of a long-standing dispute between a real estate company and a pharmaceutical company. The tension escalated on Saturday night, leading to a violent confrontation and the arrest of 41 individuals. According to the Agripada police, the lower court had ruled in favor of the real estate company, but the Bombay High Court had recently imposed a status quo after the pharmaceutical company appealed the decision. This legal limbo set the stage for the recent clash. On Saturday night, around 10 PM, security agencies employed by the two rival companies got into a dispute. The guards and bouncers belonging to the pharmaceutical company allegedly sprayed pepper spray on the guards of the real estate company and threw stones at them. The situation quickly deteriorated, and when the two groups confronted each other, one of the bouncers from the pharmaceutical company, who had a licensed double-barrel gun, fired a round in the direction of the rival security guards. The security guards from the real estate company promptly called the police control room. A police team arrived at the scene and arrested the accused, taking them to the Agripada police station. An FIR was registered against them, and a total of 41 individuals from the security agency representing the pharmaceutical company were arrested. They were produced before the court and remanded to police custody for a day. This incident is not the first of its kind. The real estate company had previously registered an FIR against the pharmaceutical company officials earlier this year after they refused to vacate the plot despite a court ruling in their favor. The ongoing legal battle and the recent violent clash highlight the intensity of the dispute over the property in Agripada. The Agripada police are now investigating the incident to determine the full extent of the involvement of both parties and to ensure that justice is served.
