Bhaskarrao Patil Khatgaonkar, brother-in-law of former chief minister Ashok Chavan and a three-time former Lok Sabha MP from Nanded, has rejoined the Congress.
Khatgaonkar's return is seen as a major boost to the Congress's chances in Nanded, which is considered Chavan's bastion.
Former MLA Omprakash Pokarna, Khatgaonkar's daughter-in-law Meenal, and former Mumbai police commissioner Sanjay Pandey have also joined the Congress.
Nanded has six assembly segments, of which two each are with the Congress and BJP, and one seat with Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena.
Pandey said no other political party except the Congress follows secular ideology and he wanted to join the party way back in 2004 but didn't get a chance.
