CREDAI and Central Polytechnic College Team Up to Boost Construction Sector Talent

CHENNAI: The Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI) Chennai has entered into a strategic partnership with Central Polytechnic College in Taramani. The collaboration is designed to establish a Centre of Excellence that will help alleviate the skill shortage in the construction industry and align technical education with the practical demands of real-world projects.

The agreement, signed on Thursday, sets the foundation for a dedicated hub focused on training civil site supervisors. It will also involve upgrading laboratories and introducing industry-led modules that reflect the operational needs of real estate and infrastructure projects.

“The establishment of the Centre of Excellence marks a pivotal step in aligning academic learning with real-world construction practices,” said A Mohamed Ali, president of CREDAI Chennai. He added that this partnership will help build a stronger talent ecosystem in the state by equipping graduates with the competencies required to take charge on the ground.

A key component of the programme is a six-month internship at project sites of CREDAI member companies. This hands-on experience will provide students with practical exposure to day-to-day project execution, safety protocols, and supervisory responsibilities. The goal is to produce “field-ready” technicians who can be directly absorbed into construction roles.

The collaboration is being overseen by CREDAI’s Skill Development Committee, chaired by R Jeyakumar, along with executive committee member T Arul. Central Polytechnic College principal OG Dharanipathi and Durganand Balsavar, senior adviser to the UN Environment Programme, are also actively involved in steering the initiative.

This partnership is expected to significantly enhance the skill set of future construction professionals, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the demands of the industry. It is a testament to the commitment of both organizations to foster innovation and excellence in the construction sector.
