DCP Krushikesh Rawale Addresses Market Concerns in Interactive Meeting with Traders and Vendors
Pune, 29th October 2025: Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Krushikesh Rawale held an interactive meeting with representatives from various business associations, authorized street vendor unions, and market groups under the jurisdictions of Khadak, Samarth, Faraskhana, Shivajinagar, Vishrambaug, and Deccan police stations.
The meeting, held at the Amphitheatre on Fergusson College Campus from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, was attended by around 40–45 participants, including traders from the grocery, timber, jewellery, and street vending sectors.
The session aimed to address the operational challenges faced by traders and strengthen coordination between the police, civic authorities, and business communities. DCP Rawale assured the attendees that strict action would be taken against unauthorized street vendors and illegal rickshaw stands. He also informed traders about the government’s circular permitting 24-hour commercial operations, provided necessary permissions are obtained.
Addressing the issue of congestion, DCP Rawale said that due to the closure of Bhide Bridge, parking on Z Bridge would be strictly monitored and violators penalized. He directed the Traffic Department to take action against vehicles parked improperly in market lanes. Heavy vehicles remain restricted within city limits, and traders were advised to use smaller vehicles for goods transportation.
Traders from the Tulshibaug area raised concerns about frequent damage to CCTV and loudspeaker wires. In response, DCP Rawale instructed the senior police inspectors of Vishrambaug and Faraskhana police stations to conduct a site inspection and take corrective measures. He further announced that police patrolling — particularly by female officers — would be intensified during weekends in the Tulshibaug market to curb thefts involving women shoppers.
Action will also be taken against unauthorized vendors operating on Fergusson College Road footpaths, especially migrant sellers, to ensure pedestrian movement remains unobstructed. DCP Rawale urged all traders to install CCTV cameras in their shops, ensuring at least one camera covers the public area outside.
Jewellery traders were advised to seek police assistance when transporting large quantities of gold or other valuables. To enhance safety and communication, DCP Rawale announced that monthly coordination meetings will be organized between the Police Department, Traffic Branch, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and trader associations.
The DCP also discussed parking and traffic management concerns in crowded market areas. He proposed that traders could avail the services of Home Guards for additional security, with deployment to be arranged through local police stations. The wages of these guards would be shared collectively by traders.
Tulshibaug Traders Association President Arvind Tandle appreciated the Pune Police for effective crowd control and safety arrangements during this year’s Ganesh Festival. He also commended the timely action against unauthorized vendors on busy roads such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road, Bajirao Road, Laxmi Road, and Mandai, which helped prevent any untoward incidents.
The meeting was held under the guidance of Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and attended by ACP Sainath Thombre (Faraskhana–Vishrambaug Division), along with Senior Police Inspectors Shashikant Chavan (Khadak), Umesh Gitte (Samarth), Prashant Bhasme (Faraskhana), Pradip Kasbe (Vishrambaug), Prasad Raut (Deccan), and Dhananjay Pingale (Shivajinagar).
The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Senior Police Inspector Umesh Gitte from Samarth Police Station.
