The Dharavi redevelopment project is one of Asia’s largest slum rehabilitation initiatives. It aims to transform the Dharavi area in Mumbai by providing modern housing and infrastructure to its residents.
Eligible residents of Dharavi will receive one rehabilitation unit, regardless of the number of tenements they own. These units will measure 350 square feet.
Residents deemed ineligible for rehabilitation within Dharavi will be relocated to rental housing complexes outside the area under a hire-purchase arrangement.
Six relocation sites have been identified for ineligible residents of Dharavi. These sites are located in Kurla, Mulund, Deonar, Malad, Kanjurmarg, and near the Eastern Express Highway.
A total of 541 acres of land have been allocated for housing ineligible tenants outside of Dharavi.
