DRI Cracks Down: ₹62.6 Crore Cocaine Smuggling Attempt Foiled at Mumbai Airport
In a significant operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Mumbai intercepted a female passenger attempting to smuggle 300 capsules of cocaine worth ₹62.6 crore from Doha to Mumbai. The drugs were concealed in chocolate boxes.
Specific intelligence developed by officers of DRI Mumbai indicated that one female Indian national, traveling from Doha to Mumbai on July 14, 2025, would be smuggling narcotics into India. Acting on this intelligence, DRI Mumbai officers intercepted the female passenger upon her arrival at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on the same day.
A thorough examination of her baggage led to the recovery of 6 Oreo boxes and 3 chocolate boxes. Upon opening, all nine boxes were found to contain capsules filled with a white powdery substance, which was later identified as cocaine. A total of 300 such capsules were recovered.
Each capsule was individually tested using the field test kit, which showed a positive result for cocaine. The total weight of the cocaine seized was 6,261 grams, with an estimated value of ₹62.6 crore in the illicit market. The drugs were seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The female passenger was arrested, and further investigation is in progress.
