ED Files Charge-Sheet Against Chaitanya Baghel in Multi-Crore Liquor Scam
Real Estate:The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a 7,000-page charge-sheet against Chaitanya Baghel, the son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, before a special court in Raipur. This move is part of the ongoing probe into the multi-crore liquor scam case. Chaitanya Baghel was arrested by the ED on July 18 at his residence in Bhilai.

The ED has alleged that Chaitanya played a key role in laundering over Rs 1,000 crore in the excise scam. A significant portion of the illicit funds, approximately Rs 16.70 crore, was channeled into his real estate project 'Vitthal Green' under Baghel Developers. The probe agency has also identified other entities, such as Dhillon City Mall and Dillon Drinks, where the laundered funds were allegedly funneled.

According to the ED, Chaitanya emerged as a key beneficiary of the illegal revenue generated from the alleged liquor syndicate, which was coordinated through various businessmen and political figures. The Central probe agency estimates that the total Proceeds of Crime in the 'liquor scam' amount to around Rs 2,161 crore.

The Chhattisgarh state Bureau for Investigation of Economic Offences (EOW) has also been actively involved in the investigation. On Monday, the EOW presented a production warrant before the special court, seeking the custody of Chaitanya for further interrogation into the liquor scam. Earlier this year, the state investigating agency filed a charge-sheet against 22 excise officials and a six-time Congress MLA, Kawasi Lakhma, in the same case.

The multi-crore liquor scam has been a significant issue in Chhattisgarh, involving a complex network of corrupt officials and businessmen. The ED and EOW have been working tirelessly to uncover the extent of the fraud and bring those involved to justice. This latest charge-sheet against Chaitanya Baghel marks a significant step in the ongoing legal proceedings and demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement agencies to root out corruption.
