Final Call for Property Tax Amnesty: Pune Municipal Corporation's Scheme Ends Today
Pune, 15th January 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a final reminder to property owners, stating that its property tax amnesty scheme will end today (January 15), and will not be extended under any circumstances. Civic officials have warned that penalty waivers will be withdrawn immediately after the deadline.
The scheme has generated strong revenue in a short span, with the PMC collecting Rs 645 crore over two months. Officials said collections peaked on Wednesday alone, when around Rs 70 crore was deposited by taxpayers rushing to take advantage of the concession.
Launched on November 15, 2025, the amnesty drive aimed to settle long-pending arrears and meet the rising financial demands related to urban infrastructure, development projects, and land acquisition. Under the scheme, defaulters were offered a 75 percent waiver on penalties, requiring them to pay the principal tax amount along with 25 percent of the penal charges.
The civic body had set an ambitious recovery target of Rs 800 crore through the initiative and is expecting an additional Rs 150 crore in collections on the final day. Officials said the last-day figures will determine whether the target is fully achieved.
Taxpayers who are yet to clear their dues can avail themselves of the concession only until the end of Thursday. Payments are being accepted through the PMC’s online payment portal and at civic facilitation centres, which are operating from 9.45 am to 6 pm. Authorities reiterated that no relaxation will be granted once the scheme concludes.
Meanwhile, PMC’s overall property tax collections for the current financial year have already surpassed budget projections. Against an estimated target of Rs 2,487 crore, collections have crossed Rs 2,500 crore, according to official data.
Commenting on the response, Ravi Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of the Property Tax Department, said the civic body would not entertain requests for an extension. “Rs 645 crore has already been collected under the amnesty scheme. January 15 is the final day, and no penalty concession will be available thereafter. Citizens should clear their pending dues without delay,” he said.
