Flood Alert in Maharashtra: Panchganga River Water Level Poses Threat to Train Services
Real Estate Pune:Maharashtra is facing a flood-like situation as the water level of Panchganga River has reached a danger mark, posing a significant threat to train services on the Miraj-Kolhapur route. The Panchganga Bridge No. 36/1, a vital railway bridge located between Rukadi and Gurumarket Railway Stations, is at risk of being submerged due to the rising water level.

The bridge, which spans 8/18.30 M + 2/17.50 M, is situated across the Panchganga River, formed by the confluence of five major streams Kasari, Dhamni, Kumbhi, Tulsi, and Bhogawati. Two major dams, Radhanagari Dam on upstream and Almatti Dam on downstream, regulate the water flow through the Panchganga Bridge.

However, due to heavy rainfall in the Kolhapur region and the catchment area, the river's water level is fast approaching the danger mark marked on the bridge. Any further release of water from the Radhanagari Dam and rainfall in the catchment area will exacerbate the problem, making train operation through this bridge unsafe.

The railway administration may have to suspend rail traffic over the bridge, which will affect train services in the Miraj-Kolhapur Section. This development comes as a concern for the locals and commuters who rely heavily on train services in the region.
