PMAY-G is a government scheme launched in 2015 to ensure that every rural poor household in India has a pucca house with basic facilities by 2022. It provides financial assistance to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families to build or upgrade their houses.
Over 39.82 lakh houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-G in the financial year 2024-25.
The states that have shown significant progress include Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh.
The basic amenities provided under PMAY-G include a toilet, kitchen, and a water source to ensure that the houses are of good quality and livable.
In addition to PMAY-G, the government has introduced the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which focuses on cleanliness and sanitation, and the Ujjwala Yojana, which provides LPG connections to women from BPL families.
