The OLS survey is a detailed mapping of obstacles around an airport to ensure safe aircraft operations and regulatory compliance. It helps in identifying and mapping obstacles to prevent interference with takeoff, landing, and manoeuvring.
The current runway at Pune Airport is 2,535 metres long (8,316 feet) and 45 metres wide.
The estimated cost for acquiring the required site for the runway extension is around ₹160 crore.
Extending the runway will facilitate the landing of larger, wide-body aircraft, enabling direct flights to continents like Europe and North America. This will boost the economy, attract more tourists, and enhance connectivity with global destinations.
The OLS survey for Pune Airport was conducted by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
