Gujarat RERA Cracks Down on Developers for QR Code Violations
Real Estate:The Gujarat Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) has begun issuing notices to developers who have failed to display the mandatory QR code, registration number, and website details on hoardings and other publicity material of their real estate projects. The watchdog is also considering imposing fines on violators.

According to sources, several developers have already received notices warning them to comply with the display norms or face suo motu action under the law. RERA officials have been surveying advertisements and hoardings across the state and attaching photographic evidence of violations with the notices—similar to how traffic e-challans are issued.

Two months ago, RERA had ordered all developers to prominently display QR codes in publicity material for registered projects. It also made it mandatory to print the project registration number and the RERA website link in a font size equal to the contact number mentioned in the advertisement.

Experts point out that under Section 11(2) of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, displaying the project registration number and RERA website in advertisements is already compulsory. The QR code requirement, however, is a fresh addition from June 15, 2025.

Order No. 108, issued by the Special Secretary of RERA, notes that project registration numbers are often lengthy and difficult to accommodate in advertisements. The QR code, included in the registration certificate, is therefore considered a more practical way for stakeholders to access project details. RERA has clarified that the new rule will be strictly enforced across all forms of publicity material.

“We have received a notice from the RERA Secretary and must now comply. The authority has warned of fines and suo motu actions. It is not just us—several builders across the state have been served similar notices for violating the latest norms,” said a source privy to the development.

The crackdown is aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in the real estate sector, which has been marred by numerous instances of fraud and delayed projects. By enforcing these new norms, RERA hopes to restore public trust in developers and provide prospective buyers with easy access to verified project information.

Developers who fail to comply with the new regulations may face heavy fines and legal actions, which could severely impact their business operations. It is therefore crucial for all real estate developers in Gujarat to adhere to the RERA guidelines and ensure that their advertising materials meet the required standards.
