The RERA Act, or the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, came into effect on May 1, 2017. It aims to regulate the real estate sector, ensuring transparency, accountability, and the protection of homebuyers' interests.
GUJRERA has issued notices to 615 builders for non-payment of fines imposed for violating the RERA Act and Rules.
If builders do not pay the fines, GUJRERA will initiate recovery proceedings under the Gujarat Land Revenue Code, treat the unpaid fines as government dues, and may attach their properties. Their names will also be published in newspapers.
Vadodara has the highest number of defaulting builders with 213, followed by Ahmedabad with 107, Surat with 72, and Rajkot with 62.
The fines imposed on the defaulting builders range from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000, depending on the nature and severity of the violations.
