The traffic police in Pune banned heavy vehicles in the city’s red zones to address traffic congestion and ensure public safety. These areas are identified as black spots, accident-prone areas, public spaces, and school zones.
Developers and construction firms are concerned that the ban will lead to financial burdens and project delays. They argue that it will be difficult to meet deadlines issued by RERA and that the increased costs of night-time transportation and smaller vehicles will impact their operations.
CREDAI suggested alternative measures such as driver education programs, road widening, and better traffic management instead of a complete ban on heavy vehicles. They believe these measures could help alleviate traffic congestion and ensure public safety without causing significant financial burdens.
According to the new schedule introduced by the traffic administration, RMC trucks are permitted to operate from 12 AM to 4 AM, while dumpers can operate from 11 AM to 5 PM. No heavy vehicles are allowed during peak hours.
