Homebuyers' 'Achhe Din': Manoj Saunik's Swift Reforms at MahaRERA
Real Estate News:Since its inception in 2016, the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) had been functioning at a snail’s pace. Between 2020 and 2023, thousands of complaints remained pending without hearings. In fact, many were deliberately kept on hold. Shockingly, in three and a half years, only 3,250 complaints were resolved.

But things changed dramatically after 2024. In just eight months, as many as 1,655 complaints were resolved. The key reason for this turnaround was the appointment of Shri Manoj Saunik as MahaRERA Chairperson in September 2024.

As soon as he took charge, Mr. Saunik launched swift and systematic hearings on complaints. His board now hears 175 to 200 cases per day, ensuring that even the oldest, long-pending complaints are now getting due attention. This has come as a huge relief for homebuyers.

He also introduced a new system called “Pronouncement of Order”, which allows immediate communication of decisions to complainants, adding to transparency and satisfaction.

During the tenure of his predecessor Ajay Mehta, a new website for MahaRERA was launched in August 2024 without adequate testing. This resulted in major disruptions, as many builders faced difficulties in registering projects. Mr. Saunik tackled this issue promptly, reactivating the old portal and simultaneously completing the testing of the new site, which is now being gradually and systematically adopted.

Mr. Manoj Saunik’s dynamic, transparent, and decisive leadership has not only accelerated complaint resolution but also helped restore public trust in MahaRERA. For homebuyers, his tenure marks the beginning of a new era of timely justice and genuine hope.
