The two women arrested for the marriage scam are K Saraswati (65) from Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh and K Swathi (40) from Kothagudem in Khammam district.
The women would pose as close relatives and approach elderly men, expressing interest in marriage. They would then collect money from the victims under various pretexts such as health and family issues and disappear without a trace.
The police were prompted to investigate the marriage scam after a man from Khammam, who had been duped out of Rs 1.8 lakh, approached the Mahankali police with a complaint.
The police advise potential victims to verify the backgrounds of individuals they meet and to be wary of any requests for money under unusual circumstances. They also encourage the public to report any suspicious activity to the police.
Victims of this marriage scam are encouraged to contact the Mahankali police station to file a complaint. The police are committed to investigating all reported cases and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
