Hyderabad Police Thwart Marriage Scam: Two Women Held for Deceiving Elderly Men
The Mahankali police have successfully thwarted a marriage scam by arresting two women who were cheating elderly men. The duo, identified as K Saraswati (65) from Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh and K Swathi (40) from Kothagudem in Khammam district, were operating a sophisticated scam that involved posing as close relatives and seeking suitable marriage alliances.
The women would approach elderly men, expressing interest in marriage, and then collect money from them under various pretexts such as health and family issues. Once the money was handed over, they would disappear without a trace. This modus operandi allowed them to dupe multiple victims over a period of time.
The fraud came to light when a man from Khammam, who had been duped out of Rs 1.8 lakh, approached the police. The Mahankali police, upon receiving the complaint, launched an investigation and managed to track down the suspects. The duo was eventually arrested and taken into custody.
The police have urged other victims of the scam to come forward and file complaints. This will help in building a stronger case against the accused and ensuring they face the full force of the law. The Mahankali police have also expressed their commitment to investigating similar cases and bringing all perpetrators to justice.
This incident highlights the importance of due diligence and caution when engaging in marriage alliances, especially for elderly individuals who may be more vulnerable to such scams. The police advise potential victims to verify the backgrounds of individuals they meet and to be wary of any requests for money under unusual circumstances.
For more information or to report any suspicious activity, the public is encouraged to contact the Mahankali police station. The police are dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of the community and are working diligently to prevent such scams from occurring in the future.
