Hyderabad: Two Women Arrested for Running Marriage Scam
The Mahankali police in Hyderabad have made a significant arrest in a case involving a marriage scam. Two women, identified as K Saraswati (65) from Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh and K Swathi (40) from Kothagudem in Khammam district, were apprehended for their involvement in cheating elderly men under the guise of marriage.
The duo took turns in duping unsuspecting elderly men by posing as close relatives of each other and seeking a suitable marriage alliance. Once the victims expressed interest in the marriage, the women would collect large sums of money from them, citing various health and family issues, and then disappear without a trace.
Their fraudulent activities came to light when a man from Khammam, who was duped to the tune of Rs 1.8 lakh, approached the police. The victim's complaint provided crucial information that led to the arrest of the two women.
The Mahankali police have urged any other victims of these fraudsters to come forward and file a complaint. The police are working to identify and assist any other potential victims who may have been deceived by the duo.
This case highlights the importance of due diligence and caution in matters of marriage and financial transactions. Elderly individuals, in particular, are often more vulnerable to such scams and require additional protection and awareness to avoid falling prey to fraudulent schemes.
If you or someone you know has been a victim of a similar scam, it is advisable to report the incident to the local police immediately. The Mahankali police are committed to ensuring the safety and security of the community and will continue to investigate and prosecute such crimes.
