MANUU Land Row: KTR Accuses Congress of Real Estate Brokering

Hyderabad: KT Rama Rao, the working president of the BRS, has pledged his party's support to the students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) who have been protesting against the state government's attempt to take over 50 acres of university land. Speaking at his residence on Friday, KTR accused the Congress government of acting like a real estate broker and eyeing the land of educational institutions in the city.

The students met with KTR to express their concerns over the government's attempt to reclaim the land from the university. KTR stated that the government had previously made an abortive bid to take back 400 acres of land from the University of Hyderabad (UoH) and the Agriculture University, and was now targeting 50 acres of MANUU land.

Speaking to reporters later, KTR described the government's actions as those of a 'serial land snatcher.' He emphasized that the Congress government's actions would severely impact the institution's future expansion and academic growth. 'MANUU is the country's only exclusive Urdu university and a pride of Hyderabad, which is being deliberately weakened for real estate interests. The Congress government wants to use the land for its real estate needs. It has become a habit for the government to grab university land,' KTR alleged.

KTR further pointed out that despite the Supreme Court's halt in the UoH land case and its observations on a 10,000-crore land scam, neither the Central government nor the state government has taken any action to investigate the issue. 'Had the Centre acted firmly, the state government would not have dared to target another central university such as MANUU,' he said.

Assuring the students of raising the issue in Parliament, KTR promised that a future BRS government would allocate funds for the university's expansion and infrastructure development. 'We will ensure that MANUU gets the support it needs to grow and thrive,' KTR stated.

The BRS has a strong presence in Hyderabad and has been vocal about protecting the interests of educational institutions and the rights of students. The party has been a vocal critic of the Congress government's policies, particularly those that impact the city's educational landscape.
