HYDRAA to Get More Teeth as Independent Enforcement Authority
Real Estate:Hyderabad The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) is all set to become an independent enforcement authority, with an ordinance for the agency in the offing. According to HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath, the Assembly will pass legislation on HYDRAA, delegating powers under various Acts to the agency.

Ranganath was speaking at an event organised by the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (Credai), Hyderabad. He clarified that HYDRAA was a legal entity, established through GO 99, and its powers would be on par with those of the police department.

HYDRAA officials revealed that the organisation will be further strengthened, with offices in the police commissionerates of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda. These offices will be similar to police stations, and the head office will be located in Buddha Bhavan, near Tank Bund.

Ranganath elaborated on HYDRAA’s mandate, calling it a striking force that can be compared to the Greyhounds, the specialised anti-Maoist wing of the police. HYDRAA’s primary focus areas include disaster management and assets protection. The agency will take care of lakes, government land parcels, parks, and open spaces marked in layouts, in addition to traffic-related encroachments.

Ranganath also clarified that HYDRAA was not empowered to serve notices and was assisting local authorities, including municipalities, revenue, irrigation, and other agencies.

The proposed ordinance is expected to give HYDRAA more teeth, enabling it to effectively tackle issues related to disaster management and assets protection.
