Indian Real Estate Attracts $80 Billion in Institutional Investments Over 15 Years
Real Estate:The Indian real estate sector has attracted nearly $80 billion in institutional investments over the past 15 years, with foreign investors accounting for 57% of the total, according to a joint report titled ‘Indian Real Estate: Fostering Equity and Fueling Economic Growth.’ The report was presented jointly by the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI) and Colliers India.

The report projects that the Indian real estate market could reach a staggering $5-10 trillion by 2047. This ambitious forecast is backed by supportive policies, strong demand, and rising investor interest, which are expected to propel decades of growth across various asset classes.

Shekhar Patel, president of CREDAI, emphasized that by 2047, real estate will not only be measured in square feet or asset values but by the quality of life created for citizens. The focus will be on climate-resilient cities, affordable yet aspirational homes, and innovation-driven urban ecosystems.

Badal Yagnik, CEO of Colliers India, noted that the growth in Grade A office and industrial stock is expected to exceed two billion square feet by 2047, while residential sales could double to one million units annually. This growth is driven by the increasing institutional investment, which involves large entities like banks, pension funds, and mutual funds pooling vast sums of money from various sources to invest in different asset classes, including real estate.

CREDAI, the apex body for private real estate developers in India, represents over 5,000 developers through 20 member associations across the country. Colliers India, the Indian arm of Colliers, a global professional services and real estate company, provides a wide range of services including commercial real estate, investment management, engineering consultancy, and project management.

The report underscores the importance of sustainable and inclusive growth in the real estate sector, highlighting the need for policies that support both economic development and environmental sustainability. The Indian real estate market is poised for a transformative journey, driven by a combination of robust investment, innovative practices, and a focus on enhancing the quality of life for citizens.
