India-Taiwan Trade Delegation Explores New Horizons Beyond Semiconductors
A business delegation from the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry visited Taiwan to strengthen trade ties in sectors including plastics, chemicals, and technology.
Real Estate:A business delegation from the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) has successfully concluded its visit to Taiwan, aiming to advance India-Taiwan trade in sectors beyond semiconductor chips. Held from 1st to 5th June 2025, the India-Taiwan trade delegation conducted its deliberations in Taipei to strengthen ties in various sectors, including plastics, chemicals, electricals, technology, education, and tea, while exploring fresh opportunities.
One of the key highlights of the delegation, which convened its discussions at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Taipei, was a meeting with Manharsinh Laxmanbhai Yadav, Director General of the India-Taipei Association (ITA). The delegation was led by Shreyansh Jain, Leader of the Sustainability Centre at PHDCCI and Director of Sperry Plast.
The Director General commended PHDCCI and the participating Indian companies for their efforts in establishing strong economic and industrial linkages with Taiwan. He also noted that Taiwan is keen to deepen its business and trade engagement with India beyond the semiconductor sector, where companies such as Foxconn and TSMC have already made significant progress.
Another key highlight of the visit was the “100-Year Celebration of Indian Tea in Taiwan,” a special event attended by Taiwanese tea importers, Indian and Taiwanese diplomats, and key stakeholders from both nations. PHDCCI delegates and Indian tea exporters showcased premium teas and engaged in B2B meetings with Taiwanese tea importers.
Yadav encouraged greater collaboration in petrochemicals, electronics, technology, biotechnology, education, construction, sustainable manufacturing, and recycling, assuring the full support of ITA in the Indian industry’s endeavours. He also expressed interest in soon inviting a few Indian companies from the delegation, such as the Sperry Group and KLJ Group, to present detailed proposals to Taiwanese stakeholders.
The five-day visit included insightful academic and innovation-focused exchanges at Yuan Ze University and Amaran Biotechnology, followed by visits to National Tsing Hua University, ITRI, and an engaging tour of the original TSMC facility, which provided a close look at Taiwan’s leadership in high-end technology and R&D.
There were productive discussions at the Importers and Exporters Association of Taipei (IEAT), including the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PHDCCI during IEAT’s future visit to India. Industry visits included a tour of Foxconn’s facility, where delegates gained valuable insights into its operations and explored potential collaborations in electronics and supply chain management.
