The main reason for the ED's investigation was Siddique's alleged involvement in a real estate project where a developer manipulated the number of eligible slum dwellers to gain more floor space index (FSI). This led to the attachment of 33 high-end flats.
The Bandra police report stated that the ration cards used to introduce fictitious illegal slum dwellers were genuine and that the concerned state government department was working on Sundays during that period to issue the ration cards.
The reasons for the SRA's lack of response to the ED's request to file an FIR are not clear. The ED sent a reminder for an update, but there was no reply from the state government agency.
In February 2023, Siddique left the Congress party and joined the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which is an alliance partner of the Shiv Sena-BJP.
The SRA plays a crucial role in the redevelopment of slums in Mumbai by ensuring that slum dwellers are provided with adequate housing and that all projects comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
