Kerala Real Estate Tycoon's Disappearance: Crime Branch Takes Over to Thwart CBI Probe
Real Estate:THIRUVANANTHAPURAM In a surprising move, the Kerala government has handed over the investigation into the disappearance of prominent real estate businessman Mohammad Attur (Mami) to the Crime Branch. This decision is seen as a bid to prevent the case from being transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Mami, a well-known figure in Kozhikode's real estate sector, went missing on August 22, 2023, after leaving his office at Arayidathupalam. His family has been alleging foul play and has been demanding a CBI probe into the matter.

A few days ago, Malappuram SP S Sasidharan had recommended that the DGP hand over the investigation to the CBI. The DGP was also in favour of this recommendation. However, following the intervention of a senior police official, the government decided to hand over the investigation to the Crime Branch.

Mami's daughter, Adeeba, has alleged that ADGP MR Ajithkumar interfered with the investigation. PV Anwar MLA had earlier raised suspicions that Mami was murdered. Despite investigations by the Nadakkavu CI and Kozhikode City Police Commissioner, the police concluded that Mami had gone into hiding.

The family is alleging that the real estate mafia is behind Mami's disappearance. Mami had travelled to Hyderabad and Mumbai for business-related work. Although the investigation team went to these cities, they were not able to find any information about Mami.

Probe sabotaged?

Despite investigating the crores of transactions made by Mami, the police were unable to uncover any leads. They were also unable to determine if Mami had any connections to gold smuggling, despite his investments in real estate and business ventures.

Earlier, ADGP MR Ajith Kumar replaced the first investigation team with a new one soon after Mami's relatives met the Chief Minister demanding a CBI probe. However, all the members of the first team were included in the new team as well, except the Malappuram SP, who was in charge of supervision.

The police have questioned several people, including friends, real estate brokers, and businessmen. Nevertheless, the police have been unable to verify the allegation that the leader of a Quotation gang in Kozhikode was given Rs 10 lakh to commit murder.

As requested by the DGP, Google headquarters in the US had handed over the data from Mami's mobile phone. The data included Tower Dump and Google Data. The data from three towers in Kozhikode revealed the information of the persons suspected of abducting him. However, the investigation did not make any progress.

About Kerala Police The Kerala Police is the law enforcement agency for the state of Kerala, India. It is headed by the Director General of Police (DGP) and is responsible for maintaining law and order in the state.

The case has been making headlines in Kerala, with many questioning the police's handling of the investigation. The Kerala High Court will consider a petition filed by Mami's wife Rukhsana seeking a CBI probe on October 1.
