Zeeshan Akhtar is a key accused in the murder of senior NCP leader Baba Siddique. He was recently arrested in Canada in connection with a fake passport case.
Baba Siddique was gunned down near his son and MLA Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Mumbai’s Khernagar area, Bandra East.
Two other accused, Dharmaraj Kashyap and Gurmail Singh, were arrested soon after the attack. The main shooter, Shivkumar Gautam, is also among the accused.
The murder is allegedly orchestrated by Anmol Bishnoi, brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, to assert dominance in Mumbai’s underworld. Zeeshan Siddique also alleged that political and real estate figures with interests in slum rehabilitation projects may be linked to the murder conspiracy.
The Maharashtra government has initiated the process to extradite Zeeshan Akhtar to India for further legal proceedings. The process is expected to be lengthy but is being pursued vigorously.
