The increase in Leatherette prices in July 2025 was driven by steady demand, currency depreciation (weaker rupee), and monsoon-related port delays which caused logistical challenges and import backlogs.
The monsoon season caused operational disruptions at key ports like Mundra, Kandla, and Nhava Sheva, leading to vessel delays and slower import clearances. This added pressure to the market and contributed to a slight increase in prices.
The demand for Leatherette is being driven by the automotive, real estate, and footwear sectors. In automotive, it is used for seat covers and interior trims, while in real estate, it is popular in furnishings and interior design. In footwear, synthetic Leatherette is gaining favor over genuine leather.
The depreciation of the rupee made imported raw materials more expensive, which led to increased costs for manufacturers. Some of these costs were passed down to consumers, contributing to the mild price increase.
According to ChemAnalyst, Leatherette prices are expected to underperform in the upcoming sessions due to projected lower demand from regional and overseas markets, exacerbated by monsoon sessions and US tariffs on Indian goods exports.
