Lok Adalat, or People's Court, is a forum for alternative dispute resolution in India. It aims to provide a quick, cost-effective, and amicable resolution to disputes outside the regular court system.
A total of 58.67 lakh cases were settled in the recent Lok Adalat in Karnataka, including 55.56 lakh pre-litigation cases and 3.11 lakh pending cases.
The Lok Adalat settled various types of cases, including matrimonial cases, partition suits, motor vehicle accident cases, cheque bounce cases, and consumer cases, among others.
Justice V Kameswar Rao is the Executive Chairman of Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) and a Judge of the Karnataka High Court. He played a key role in the successful execution of the Lok Adalat.
Settling pre-litigation cases through the Lok Adalat prevents these cases from entering the regular court system, thereby reducing the burden on the judiciary and providing quicker justice to litigants.
