Lubrizol and Ashirvad Enhance WASH Facilities in Pune Schools to Support Student Health

Lubrizol Corporation, in collaboration with Ashirvad Pipes, has implemented significant upgrades to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure across four government schools in Pune district, with support from the Jal Seva Charitable Foundation. The effort focuses on improving access to safe drinking water and strengthening sanitation systems in rural school settings where such facilities were previously limited.

The intervention benefits more than 565 students along with school staff by addressing basic infrastructure gaps that directly impact daily school life. The schools covered under the initiative are located in peripheral rural areas where access to a reliable water supply and hygienic sanitation facilities has been a longstanding concern.

As part of the execution, Lubrizol provided funding for the installation of WASH systems, while Ashirvad Pipes supplied CPVC plumbing solutions designed for durability and efficient water distribution. These systems have been set up to ensure a consistent and dependable supply of water within school premises. The installed infrastructure is capable of delivering up to 13,000 litres of safe water daily, supporting both drinking water needs and sanitation requirements.

Before the upgrade, the participating schools had limited access to safe water and faced challenges in maintaining proper hygiene standards. The newly installed systems are intended to reduce dependency on external water sources and improve overall sanitation conditions within the school environment. The infrastructure improvements are also expected to contribute to a more stable and functional learning environment for students.

In addition to physical upgrades, the initiative includes structured hygiene awareness sessions conducted for students, teachers, and members of the broader school community. These sessions focus on sanitation practices, safe water usage, and basic hygiene habits, with the objective of encouraging consistent behavioral changes over time.

The programme has been carried out in coordination with local stakeholders, including school administrations and panchayat bodies, to support smoother implementation and ensure community involvement. This coordinated approach combines infrastructure development with awareness efforts, aiming to create a more sustainable impact rather than limiting the intervention to physical installations alone.

Through this collaboration, Lubrizol and Ashirvad Pipes are not only addressing immediate infrastructure needs but also fostering a culture of hygiene and health awareness among students and the broader community. This comprehensive approach ensures that the benefits of improved WASH facilities are felt in both the short and long term, contributing to the overall well-being and education of students in Pune's rural areas.
