Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024: CM Eknath Shinde's Assets Surge by 63.31%
Real Estate Maharashtra:Mumbai As the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024 draw near, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s financial declarations have become a focal point of interest. CM Shinde’s assets have increased by 63.31% and his wife’s assets by 73.26% in the last five years. However, there is a notable discrepancy in their annual income trends. CM Shinde’s annual income has decreased by 22.31%, while his wife’s income has more than doubled, increasing by 214.71%.

On the final day for filing nominations, CM Shinde filed his nomination from Thane’s Kopri-Pachpakhadi constituency. His asset declaration, filed with the Election Commission, shows a significant increase from Rs 5.44 crore in 2019 to Rs 14.83 crore in 2024. This 63.31% increase in assets is a testament to his financial growth over the years. The assets include cash worth Rs 2,600, fixed deposits totaling Rs 10.76 lakh, shares of Thane Janata Cooperative Bank (TJSB) worth Rs 50,500, and an LIC policy worth Rs 59.87 lakh. Additionally, CM Shinde owns 110 grams of gold worth Rs 7.92 lakh, a revolver worth Rs 2.5 lakh, a pistol worth Rs 2.25 lakh, and two cars— a 2006-registered Mahindra Armada and a 2011-registered Mahindra Bolero. He also has investments in various business ventures, including Bombay Food Packers, Shivam Transport, Shivam Enterprises, and Newleaf Organics.

CM Shinde’s annual income, however, has experienced a downturn, dropping by 22.31% from Rs 44.81 lakh in 2020 to Rs 34.81 lakh in 2024. His income had initially increased to Rs 52.96 lakh in 2021, but it subsequently decreased to Rs 48.90 lakh in 2022 and Rs 35.05 lakh in 2023. The CM’s income sources include business and agriculture activities, such as those from Bombay Food Packers, Shivam Transport, Shivam Enterprises, and Newleaf Organics, in addition to his salary from the state government. He has a liability of Rs 5.29 crore, primarily from loans taken from his wife, daughter-in-law, and a real estate company.

On the other hand, CM Shinde’s wife, Lata Shinde, has seen a remarkable 73.26% increase in her assets, which now stand at Rs 22.85 crore, up from Rs 6.11 crore in 2019. Her assets include cash worth Rs 2 lakh, fixed deposits totaling Rs 1.50 crore, an LIC policy worth Rs 3.84 lakh, and a life insurance policy worth Rs 17.33 lakh. She owns 580 grams of gold worth Rs 41.76 lakh and several vehicles, including a 2010-registered tempo, a 2013-registered Toyota Innova, a 2019-registered Toyota Innova, and a 2016-registered Mahindra Scorpio. Lata Shinde has also lent Rs 4.55 crore to her husband and has investments in multiple businesses, including Shinde Construction and Newleaf Organics.

Lata Shinde’s annual income has seen a significant surge, increasing by 214.71% from Rs 5.03 lakh in 2020 to Rs 15.83 lakh in 2024. Her income remained relatively stable between Rs 4.26 lakh and Rs 4.97 lakh from 2021 to 2023 but experienced a substantial jump in the last year. She earns her income from various business ventures, including Shinde Construction, Newleaf Organics, and rental properties. Lata Shinde has a liability of Rs 9.99 crore, which she owes to banks and individuals.

CM Shinde’s financial growth is not without controversy, as he faces nine pending criminal cases. These cases include six charges for disobeying public servants’ orders, unlawful assembly, wrong claims, defamation in elections, and setting public property ablaze. Despite these legal challenges, CM Shinde remains a prominent figure in Maharashtra’s political landscape, and his financial declarations are closely scrutinized as the election season progresses.
