The alliance, consisting of the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)-Shiv Sena (UBT), and other parties, is currently engaged in discussions on seat-sharing for the upcoming elections.

The Maharashtra assembly polls are scheduled to be held later this year, with 288 members of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly to be elected. In preparation, the top leaders of the three major allies - Congress, NCP-SP, and Shiv Sena (UBT) - held a meeting on Tuesday to deliberate on the seat-sharing formula.According to sources from the Congress, the party is likely to contest 120-130 assembly seats, while the Shiv Sena (UBT) is expected to contest 90-100 seats, and the NCP-SP is likely to contest 75-80 seats in the coming elections.

The Maharashtra Congress Unit is set to hold a two-day meeting starting today to discuss seat-sharing and finalize the candidates for the polls. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also announced its plans to contest the assembly polls with its Mahayuti ally partners.

The BJP's decision comes after the conclusion of its core committee meeting on June 29, where party state president Ashish Shelar stated that the BJP will contest the assembly polls with its ally partners and a roadmap for the same was decided in the meeting. Shelar also appreciated the budget of Maharashtra, which covers the welfare of all segments of society, including farmers, youth, and women.

The Lok Sabha polls 2024 have given a boost to the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, with the Shiv Sena (UBT) winning seven seats, the Congress 13, and the NCP-SP one, taking the total tally of the alliance to 17. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dipped to nine seats in Maharashtra against 23 in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, with a vote share of 26.18 per cent.

In the 2019 Assembly elections, the BJP and the undivided Shiv Sena had contested in an alliance, with the BJP winning 105 seats and the Sena winning 56 seats. The undivided NCP had won 44 seats, while the Congress had won 44 seats.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance is looking to build on its success in the Lok Sabha polls and make a strong showing in the upcoming assembly elections. With the seat-sharing formula still being discussed, it remains to be seen how the alliance will fare in the polls.
