Maharashtra Cabinet Approves Innovative Slum Cluster Redevelopment Scheme for Mumbai
Real Estate Maharashtra:Mumbai, Oct 7 (PTI) The Maharashtra Cabinet has taken a significant step towards urban transformation by approving a scheme that seeks to redevelop slums in Mumbai as integrated housing projects with better living conditions and improved urban infrastructure.

The slum cluster redevelopment scheme will be implemented by the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA), a state government agency established to provide modern housing to families living in shanties. This initiative is aimed at accelerating large-scale slum redevelopment and enhancing the quality of life in the financial capital.

According to a statement released by the office of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis after the Cabinet meeting, the scheme will focus on redeveloping slum clusters as integrated housing projects. These projects will provide better living conditions while also creating opportunities for private investment and construction activity. The government anticipates that this will generate employment in the construction and allied sectors, contributing significantly to Mumbai's economic growth.

In another significant decision, the Cabinet approved a state-wide sewage treatment and reuse policy for 424 urban local bodies. This policy is designed to promote a circular economy through waste water treatment and reuse, ensuring environmentally sustainable urban growth. A circular economy is a system that eliminates waste and pollution by keeping resources in use for a long time, which is crucial for sustainable development.

The government also approved the allocation of 2.38 hectares of land at Mouza Badnera to the Amravati Municipal Corporation for 30 years. This land will be used for setting up an e-bus depot and charging infrastructure under the Centre's PM-E Bus Scheme. This decision is expected to boost urban mobility and support green transport initiatives, aligning with the state's commitment to environmental sustainability.

In a move that will benefit the education and welfare sectors, the Cabinet extended the Modified Assured Career Progression (MACP) scheme to non-teaching staff at 980 aided residential ashram schools run by voluntary organizations. These schools cater to students from OBC communities and children of sugarcane workers, ensuring they have access to quality education and career opportunities.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved the establishment of a senior civil court at Akole in Ahilyanagar district, sanctioning the creation of necessary posts for its functioning. This will enhance the judicial infrastructure in the region, ensuring better access to justice for the local population.

The government also cleared an amendment to the Maharashtra Prevention of Fragmentation and Consolidation of Holdings Act, 1947. This amendment involves removing a proviso under Section 8(b) and inserting a new clause in Section 9 to prevent land fragmentation and strengthen consolidation. This move is expected to improve land management practices and support agricultural productivity.

These decisions reflect the Maharashtra government's commitment to comprehensive urban and rural development, focusing on infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and social welfare.
