Maharashtra CM Approves Rs 4,628 Crore PMRDA Budget for 2026-27
Pune, 6th May 2026: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also chairs the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), approved the authority’s Rs 4,628.85 crore budget for 2026-27 at a meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai. The budget projects an expenditure of Rs 4,625.30 crore and a marginal surplus.
Alongside clearing the budget, Fadnavis directed PMRDA to prepare the long-pending structural development plan for villages under its jurisdiction within six months. He also called for the creation of a special purpose vehicle (SPV) for the proposed Katraj–Yerawada twin tunnel project.
“The SPV should be formed with the Pune Municipal Corporation taking the lead, while PMRDA will be a partner in the execution,” Fadnavis said, adding that the PMC should also undertake planned development in 23 recently merged villages.
In a move aimed at speeding up administrative processes, the meeting approved the delegation of powers related to land disposal to the metropolitan commissioner. This is expected to streamline services such as plot allotment, transfers, inheritance entries, and issuance of no-objection certificates under the Maharashtra Right to Public Services Act, 2015.
The engineering department received the largest share of the budget — Rs 2,918.81 crore — for infrastructure projects including the ring road, Metro expansion, road development, the twin tunnel project, Lonavala skywalk, river improvement works for Pavana-Indrayani and Mula-Mutha, and housing initiatives. The land and estate department has been allocated Rs 970.76 crore.
A separate fire services fund has also been created, with expected receipts of Rs 100.05 crore and planned expenditure of Rs 71.04 crore. The budget was presented by metropolitan commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari. The meeting was attended by deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, along with other ministers. Key regional infrastructure projects, including the proposed Purandar airport and the inner ring road, were also discussed.
