Maharashtra CM Seeks Radar Relocation to Boost North Mumbai Redevelopment
Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has made a significant appeal to the aviation ministry, requesting the relocation of radars and transmission towers from Dahisar and DN Nagar to alternative locations. The move is aimed at facilitating the redevelopment of residential buildings in north Mumbai, which has been hindered by the presence of these structures. Speaking at the Western Region Ministers' Conference on Civil Aviation, Fadnavis emphasized the urgency of the issue, stating that the necessary land and funds have already been provided for the relocation.
The chief minister said, 'The land to shift the radar has been provided, as has the money. If it is required to be placed before the cabinet, then do so, and if it can be done at your level, then do it. If it is shifted, it will benefit 10 lakh middle-class people who will be able to carry out redevelopment, which is currently stuck on account of the radars.' Fadnavis also invited the aviation ministry team to visit the two provided plots and select the most suitable location for the relocation.
Civil Aviation Minister K R M Naidu and MoS Murlidhar Mohol were present at the meeting. Fadnavis took the opportunity to highlight the progress on other key infrastructure projects in the region. At the Vadhavan port groundbreaking ceremony in Palghar, he raised the issue of building an offshore airport. 'An agency has been appointed to prepare the detailed project report, and it will be Mumbai's third airport. We want to begin work on it by 2026,' he announced.
Fadnavis credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for expediting the permissions for the Navi Mumbai airport, which is nearing completion. He emphasized that, along with the Pune and Nagpur airports, the new facilities will play a crucial role in cargo handling. 'These airports will significantly enhance the region's connectivity and economic growth,' he added.
The relocation of the radars and the development of new airports are part of a broader strategy to modernize and expand Mumbai's infrastructure, addressing the growing needs of its population and supporting economic development. The chief minister's initiatives aim to improve the quality of life for residents and attract more investments into the region, particularly in the real estate sector.
