Real Estate Maharashtra:In a major victory for the fight against corruption, the Special Judge, Kelapur has sentenced two former Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) officials to 5 years' imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 20,000 in a bribery case.

The accused, Shri Manik Lal Paul, then Manager (Finance), WCL, Neeljai Sub Area, and Shri Avinash Marotrao Kakde, then Clerk (E&M), O/o Chief Manager (E&M), WCL Neeljai North Open Cast Mine, Neeljai, were found guilty of demanding and accepting bribes from a complainant.

According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the accused had demanded bribes in exchange for passing the bills of the complainant related to repairing and RTO passing of an ambulance. The CBI had laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe.

The case was registered on May 6, 2014, and after completion of the investigation, a charge sheet was filed on January 20, 2015, against the accused in the Court of Special Judge, Kelapur (Maharashtra). The court, after trial, found the accused guilty and sentenced them accordingly.
