Maharashtra Elections 2024: Congress Finalizes 62 Candidates, Chooses Vasantrao Chavan's Son for Nanded LS Bypolls
Real Estate Maharashtra:Maharashtra Elections 2024 have been heating up with the Congress party making significant moves in the run-up to the polls. Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole announced on Wednesday that his party has finalized the names of 62 candidates for the assembly elections. Additionally, the state leadership has chosen Ravindra Chavan, the son of the late Vasantrao Chavan, for the Nanded parliamentary by-election. The Congress will hold a CEC meeting on Sunday, October 20, to finalize the candidate list further.

Vasant Chavan, who won the Nanded constituency for the Congress party in 2024, passed away in August after a prolonged illness. Chavan had made his mark in Lok Sabha by defeating BJP strongman and MP Pratap Patil Chikhlikar from the Nanded region in Marathwada. Now, the Congress has decided to field his son, Ravindra Chavan, to continue the family legacy.

Meanwhile, the BJP's central election committee also convened on Wednesday to finalize candidates for the Maharashtra polls. The CEC discussed the seats the BJP is keen to contest in the 288-member assembly. According to sources, the BJP is likely to contest around 150 seats, allowing the remaining seats to be contested by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar's NCP. This strategic move aims to maintain the alliance's strength and coherence.

Earlier in the day, Jayant Bawankule, a key figure in the alliance, emphasized the need for Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to be open-minded and willing to make sacrifices in the seat-sharing arrangement, much like the BJP has done.
