The Integrated Metropolitan Transport Authority (IMTA) is a proposed regulatory body that will unify and manage various modes of transport in metro cities, ensuring better coordination and regulation.
The committee was formed to draft legislation for the IMTA, as recommended by the National Urban Transport Policy 2016, to strengthen and integrate the transport network in metro cities.
The committee is headed by Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao and includes key figures from various transport and municipal bodies such as the MMRDA, BEST Undertaking, and BMC.
The committee has been tasked with submitting a draft of the legislation, along with rules and regulations, within two months.
IMTAs will be established for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, enhancing transport coordination and regulation in these metro cities.
