Maharashtra Regulator Approves 5,991 MW of Solar Power Procurement
Real Estate Maharashtra:The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has approved 5,991 MW of solar power procurement. This move is expected to boost the renewable energy sector in the state.

According to the MERC order, the approved capacity includes 4,320 MW of solar power from the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0, a scheme aimed at promoting solar-powered agriculture in the state.

The Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) compliance period for the year 2024-25 has also been extended by the MERC. The commission has stated that the RPO compliance for the year 2024-25 will be considered on a quarterly basis.

The MERC has also approved the procurement of 1,671 MW of solar power from the grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. The commission has stated that the tariff for these projects will be discovered through a competitive bidding process.

The approval of 5,991 MW of solar power procurement is a significant step towards achieving the state's renewable energy targets. Maharashtra has set a target of generating 12,930 MW of renewable energy by 2025.
