Maharashtra Set to Revolutionize Electronics with First OSAT Facility in Navi Mumbai
Real Estate Pune:Mumbai/Pune, 18th July 2024 In a major boost to India's electronics manufacturing industry, Rajendra Chodankar, Chairman of RRP Electronics, announced that Maharashtra's first semiconductor chip manufacturing plant will become operational on 16th September. This Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility, inaugurated in Navi Mumbai in March, marks a significant milestone for the state.

The announcement was made at the Semiconductor Eco-System Conference organized by the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Agriculture (MCCIA) on Senapati Bapat Road in Pune. Currently, India relies heavily on imports from Taiwan and South Korea for semiconductor chips, a critical component in electronics. However, with the setting up of this OSAT plant, Maharashtra is set to reduce its dependence on foreign countries by at least 25%.

Chodankar emphasized that the state government has provided significant subsidies for the project, which is being set up in a 45,000-square-foot area. He expressed confidence that the project will be fully operational by September, providing opportunities for self-employment in the state.

OSAT technology plays a vital role in developing semiconductor chips using semiconductor wafers. While India lacks the sophisticated foundries required to manufacture semiconductor wafers, factories are being established to develop semiconductor chips using wafers. This facility in Navi Mumbai will be a significant step towards self-sufficiency in electronics manufacturing.

Chodankar also revealed that the company plans to set up a foundry to develop semiconductor wafers at Talodaya, a development that will further boost the state's electronics industry.
