The 10-day active TB detection campaign is a comprehensive initiative launched by the Maharashtra health department to identify and treat undiagnosed TB cases, particularly in high-risk communities, to reduce the disease's burden and improve public health outcomes.
Health workers will use a combination of methods to screen individuals, including symptom-based screening, chest X-rays, and sputum tests. Those identified as having TB will be referred to healthcare facilities for further diagnosis and treatment.
TB remains a significant public health challenge in India, with the country accounting for a large proportion of the global TB burden. In 2020, India reported over 2 million TB cases, making it a critical focus area for health authorities.
Community engagement is crucial for the success of the campaign. Health workers will work closely with local leaders and community members to raise awareness about TB, dispel myths, and encourage more people to come forward for screening.
The state government is establishing more TB diagnostic centers, introducing new treatment regimens, and providing social support to TB patients. They are also working to improve the overall healthcare infrastructure to ensure TB patients have access to quality care and support throughout their treatment journey.
