Maharashtra's Major Cities Embrace Green Tourism: MTDC Installs EV Charging Stations
Real Estate Maharashtra:Mumbai/Pune, 26th May 2025: In a significant boost to sustainable tourism and electric vehicle (EV) adoption, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is set to install EV charging stations at 49 of its resorts across the state, including key locations near Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, and Nashik.

As part of this ambitious initiative, the MTDC is currently rolling out EV charging points at its Boat Club and Grape Park resorts, both nestled on the scenic backwaters of Gangapur Dam near Nashik. These two resorts are among the first to benefit from the project aimed at encouraging eco-friendly travel among tourists visiting Maharashtra’s popular destinations.

An MTDC spokesperson explained that each location will feature two charging stations capable of servicing four electric vehicles simultaneously. This move responds directly to the growing number of EV owners and the need to provide convenient charging infrastructure at tourist hotspots.

The project involves leasing approximately 50 square meters of space at each resort to private contractors, who will handle the setup, operation, and maintenance of the charging facilities. Initial leases will last 10 years, with options for renewal for another decade, ensuring long-term sustainability of the infrastructure.

Across the state, the highest number of EV charging stations will be concentrated in the Nagpur region, with 13 planned locations. Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg regions will see 10 stations, Pune nine, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar seven, and six charging points will be set up near Mumbai, reinforcing the city’s commitment to cleaner transport.

In Nashik, besides the two stations at Gangapur Dam resorts, charging points will also be installed at MTDC properties in Bhandardara and Shirdi within the Ahilyanagar district, further expanding the network.

The MTDC has already invited Expressions of Interest (EoI) from companies interested in partnering on this green infrastructure project. The last date for submission is June 4, with the bids scheduled to be opened on June 5.

This initiative aligns with Maharashtra’s broader goals to promote electric mobility, reduce pollution, and enhance tourist experiences through modern amenities. As electric vehicles gain traction across cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur, the MTDC’s efforts will play a crucial role in supporting sustainable travel across the state.
