MahaRERA stands for Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority. It is a regulatory body established to protect the rights of homebuyers and ensure transparency, accountability, and timeliness in the real estate sector.
MahaRERA ordered compensation because the project, originally scheduled for completion in December 2016, remained incomplete despite multiple revised deadlines. The builder failed to honor contractual obligations, causing significant inconvenience to the homebuyers.
19 out of the 24 complainants who lodged complaints with MahaRERA were awarded compensation, including interest on payments, rent for alternative accommodation, and damages for mental harassment.
The directors of Palm Tree Developers, Anurag Khemka and Debajyoti Dasgupta, cited complications in land title clearances and delayed approvals from the landowners as the main reasons for the delays.
MahaRERA dismissed the developer's arguments, stating that the primary responsibility to complete the project lies with the developer. The authority emphasized that homebuyers cannot be made to suffer indefinitely for internal disputes between the developer and landowners.
