MahaRERA stands for Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority. It is a regulatory body established to oversee and regulate the real estate sector in the state of Maharashtra, ensuring transparency and consumer protection.
Key reforms include the suspension of non-compliant residential developments, mandatory QR codes in property advertisements, a ruling on parking space allocation, a hybrid hearing system for fast justice, and a time-bound compensation recovery process for buyers.
The QR code provides direct access to the RERA website of the project, allowing buyers to instantly verify the project's status and registration details before making any financial commitments.
If developers fail to make compensation payments within 60 days, consumers can file a default case, which will be resolved within a stipulated period as per the new Standard Operating Procedure introduced by MahaRERA.
The hybrid hearing system allows complainants to choose between virtual or in-person hearings, providing flexibility and ensuring that justice is accessible and expedited. This system has been well-received by homebuyers, societies, and developers.
