An Occupation Certificate (OC) is a document issued by the local municipal authority that certifies a building is fit for occupation. It is essential for developers to hand over possession of the property to homebuyers.
MahaRERA is verifying OCs to address the issues of stalled real estate projects and ensure that these projects are completed and handed over to homebuyers. This move aims to provide clarity and reassurance to both homebuyers and developers.
If discrepancies are found during the verification process, MahaRERA will take appropriate action, including issuing notices and penalties to the developers. In some cases, the authority may order the completion of pending work before issuing the OC.
This initiative will benefit homebuyers by providing them with a clear path to receiving possession of their properties. It will also ensure that the projects they have invested in are completed according to the approved plans and building regulations.
In addition to verifying OCs, MahaRERA is also facilitating mediation between developers and homebuyers, providing legal assistance, and working with the government to streamline approval processes. These measures aim to restore confidence in the real estate market.
