Mahindra & Mahindra Launches Advanced EV Manufacturing Unit Near Pune
Real Estate Pune:Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has officially launched a new electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing and battery assembly facility at its Chakan plant, located near Pune, Maharashtra.
This advanced facility, unveiled on January 8, 2025, is a testament to M&M's commitment to innovation and sustainable manufacturing.
The plant, which will be dedicated to producing Electric Origin SUVs, is strategically located within the company's 2.83 square km Chakan manufacturing hub.
This hub is known as one of India’s largest greenfield projects and is designed to be a water-positive facility, entirely reliant on renewable energy.

The new EV plant will span approximately 88,000 square metres and will feature cutting-edge technology.
It will include a fully automated press shop, an AI-driven body shop, and what M&M claims to be 'India’s most sophisticated robotic paint shops to optimize quality and efficiency'.
The plant will also deploy over 500 robots to ensure high precision and efficiency in production processes.

Mahindra & Mahindra has allocated Rs 4,500 crore for this project, which is part of a larger investment cycle of Rs 16,000 crore planned from FY 2021-22 to FY 2026-27.
This comprehensive investment will cover powertrain development, the creation of two product top hats, including software, and the expansion of tech and manufacturing capacity.

The battery assembly plant, in particular, is designed to be one of the world’s most compact manufacturing lines, employing patented processes and lean module assembly.
This setup ensures that the plant is not only efficient but also highly adaptable to future technological advancements.

In related news, Mahindra has recently introduced its new EV range, including the XEV 9e and BE 6.
In an exchange filing on January 7, M&M announced the prices of the top models of these two EVs.
The BE 6 Pack Three will be priced at Rs 26.9 lakh, while the XEV 9e Pack Three will cost Rs 30.5 lakh.
Bookings for these new EVs are set to begin on February 14.
